The Tale of One Bad Rat: Lake District gallery

This gallery is here to show some real world photo's compared to Bryan's drawings of the same scenes. These images - both the photo's and the drawn pictures - are all from The Tale of One Bad Rat, since that comic is entirely "real world" in that it is present day, and Bryan deliberately firmly grounded it in reality.

I took these photo's during a weekend break in the Lake District of England with my girlfriend (who is now my wife!), and whilst there we stayed at the Thwaite Cottage bed and breakfast place - and it is truly excellent! It is a 17th century cottage, with oak beams and excellent views, but most importantly a wonderful couple who run it. Anway, their details are on the Net at the link above, so if you ever need a place to stay in the Lake District, give 'em a try, and say that James sent you!

Cartmell Fell church (inside)

These two images are inside Cartmell Fell church, and in the comic it is when Helen is taking a long walk and trying to come to terms with her past

Helen at Bowland Bridge

Helen - when she sees the heron at Bowland Bridge - and the real world photo of the same location, minus the heron, but with my fiance Vanessa standing in for Helen.

The pub from "Jemima Puddleduck"

This is the pub that was used in "Jemima Puddleduck" and is on the way from the ferry across Windermere to Hill Top, which is Beatrix Potter's house.

Helen at Hill Top - 1

This is an image of Helen arriving at Hill Top cottage, where Beatrix Potter spent her later, happier years. The photo has a picture of my fiance Vanessa in it, partly for scale, but also because I wanted to!

Helen at Hill Top - 2

Helen looking out over the fields outside Hill Top - Beatirx Potters second home - towards Castle Cottage, her first home.
