The announcement of the new design for the site
I have been running a fanpage for Bryan for 13 years now, and in all that time it has had just two designs.... until now!
The original design is just terrible - and also, thankfully, burried in the mists of time and the pre-Google caching of sites... - and in any case the next version design of the site ain't that much better! (but I have kept it live just in case there is a page on this latest version you cannot find) - I designed it when I was just starting out on my web design career and the issue has been that the site just go so big that changing and editing every single page got progressively more terrible to contemplate. And the design... - well, put it this way: it was all flat-file HTML so I could only make changes by hand coding every page: and when it had grown organically to over 1200 pages that just seemed daunting in the extreme... - then there is the fact that there are no downstates on the navigation - and the fact that there is not a search function on every page... and so on and on...
But Bryan asked me nicely - and kept on relentlessly sending me new goodies and previews of comics not even published yet, and generally being the incredibly nice person that he is until eventually I said to hell with it - and took a week off work and did the new site. From the ground up. But right this time....
What you see here is the result. Bryan asked Jordan Smith to work on the graphics. (I ain't ever claimed to be an artist!) I talked a good friend of mine who is also a Talbot fan - say hello Rob! - into helping with the coding, and I am going to gradually move all the content over here into the new look and feel.
The plan is this: I just can't move all content over in one go - there is just too much. So I have moved a certain amount of content across into this new design, but made especially sure that the whole of the previous version of the site is still here on the server so fans can find anything they might want. What will happen now though is that the previous version will remain static as it is, and this new, glorious version will be the one that is kept up to date.
This site is not finished yet - we are getting the look and feel perfect this time: but, the new way we have coded it means it is future proof and any changes can be very quickly implemented. Any comments or ideas? - get in touch through the contact us page or jump over to the Bryan Talbot fangroup on Facebook and say hello.
